Issue dedicated to the subject of death.

Commission’s brief:

Death is an intrinsic part of being a doctor. Part of medical school is spent in a cellar (the morgues are always located in cellars) dissecting cadavers.

And when someone dies, it is the doctor’s job to establish that the person actually and surely is dead, and to fill in the death certificate with the cause of death.

When death comes surprisingly, or there is suspicion that the dead person is victim of a criminal act, an autopsy is performed.

Blood is drawn, imaging studies are performed and the body is cut open to examine all the organs to try to find out the cause and time of death.
